A commemorative stamp, FDC and brochure were issued in honour of the National Song "Vande Mataram" on 30.12.1976. The stamp depicts the Pallavi of the song, included in the Novel, Anandmath, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterji (Chattopadhyaya).
Though the song is in Bengali language, the Pallavi and the 4th and 5th caraṇas are all in Sanskrit. The text is reproduced below:
मलयजशीतलाम् शस्यशामलाम् मातरम् ।
शुभ्रज्योत्स्नापुलकितयामिनीम्
फुल्लकुसुमितद्रुमदलशोभिनीम्
सुहासिनीं सुमधुरभाषिणीम्
सुखदां वरदां मातरम् ।। १।। वन्दे मातरम् ।
Aurobindo translates this verse, thus -
Mother, I salute thee!
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
bright with orchard gleams,
Cool with thy winds of delight,
Dark fields waving Mother of might,
Mother free.
Glory of moonlight dreams,
Over thy branches and lordly streams,
Clad in thy blossoming trees,
Mother, giver of ease
Laughing low and sweet!
Mother I kiss thy feet,
Speaker sweet and low!
Mother, to thee I salute.
