Vidyapati, 1972 - Special Cover


Bihar Philatelic Society, Patna issued a special cover on 19.11.1972 on the occasion of Indepsilpex-72 which depicts the facsimile of the stamp issued by India in 1965.

Nepal, Vidyapati, 1992 - Stamp, Brochure




Nepal issued a stamp in the denomination of Re.1 to honour the Sanskrit scholar, Vidyapati in 1992. An FDC and brochure were also issued.

Vidyapati, 1965 - Stamp, First Day Cover


Vidyapati, in full Vidyāpati Ṭhākur  (born c. 1352, Bisapi, Madhubani, Bihar province [now in north-central Bihar state, northeastern India]—died 1448, Bisapi), Maithili Brāhman writer and poet, known for his many erudite Sanskrit works and also for his erotic poetry written in the Maithili language. He was the first writer to use Maithili as a literary language. (Courtesy: EB)













A commemorative stamp in the denomination of 15P was issued by the Indian Posts and Telegraphs along with an FDC and a brochure in honour of this great Sanskrit scholar.

1.   Śaiva-sarvasva-rasaḥ  - Digest on worship of Śiva
2.   Gangā-vākyāvalī – On worshipping Gaṅgā
3.   Durgā-bhakti-taraṇgiṇī – On worshipping Durgā
4.   Dāna-vākyāvalī – On performing various kinds of Dāna
