Quasquicentennial Celebration of Rajah's College of Sanskrit and Tamil Studies, Tiruvaiyyaru, 2006 - Special Cover


The Rajah's College was established in the year 1881 as a Trust in Tiruvaiyyaru, near Thanjavur, the cradle of art and culture of South India. It was named after the Maratha King Raja Sarabhoji (Serfoji) II. 

It is situated in a serene atmosphere on the banks of the Kaveri. The College offers courses in Sanskrit and Tamil. Many eminent scholars have come out of this Institution.

Dr P. S. Subrahmanya Sastri (1890-1978), a great Sanskritist, was one of the well known principals of the College. He taught both Sanskrit and Tamil and equipped several students who later became renowned in several branches of the Sanskrit and Tamil literature.

India Post issued a special cover to honour the 125th Year Celebrations of the Rajah's College on 3.3.2006.
