Indian Post & Telegraphs issued a stamp, FDC and brochure on 23.7.1956 to celebrate the Centenary of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
Tilak was a great traditional and orthodox Vedic scholar. Based on his studies in the Vedas, he prepared his magnum opus -- The Arctic Home in the Vedas. Similarly, his deep knowledge of the Sanskrit language is reflected in the Gītā-rahasya.
Tilak is wrongly spelt as तिलक (Tilak) instead of टिळक (Ṭiḷak) as pronounced in Marāṭhi.
The official First Day Cover shown below is marked with Tilak's birth place, Ratnagiri.
