Dayanand Saraswati, 1962 - Stamp



A stamp (15nP) in honour of Svāmī Dayanand Saraswathi founder of the Ārya Samāj was released by the P & T Department on 4.3.1962. An FDC and Brochure were also issued. 

Svāmī Dayanand Saraswati (1824-1883) was the leader of the reform movement, against orthodox Vedic tradition. A profound Vedic and Sanskrit scholar, he wrote commentaries on the Vedas. Though born in an orthodox Brāhmaṇa family of Gujarat, he fought against mūrti-pūjā, temple worship, caste, pilgrimage, astrology, etc. The followers of Sanātana Dharma summarily rejected these reforms.

5.    Vedāṇga-prakāśa - Hindi Translation
