The International Astronomical Union - XIX General Assembly - was held on 19.11.1985 in New Delhi. A commemorative stamp in the denomination of 100P showing the Halley's Comet was released on the occasion. The first day cover carried symbolic representation of the Sun and beneath the Sanskrit wordings:-
"ज्योतिषं वेदानामुत्तमं शास्त्रम्"
(jyotiṣam vedānāṃ uttamaṃ śāstraṃ) which means --
"Astronomy
the excellent Sastra of the Vedas".
