Himalayan Peaks, 1988 - First Day Cover

Kalidasa called the lofty Himalayas as the "Mānadaṇḍa" A measure of the earth in his immortal kāvya (poem), Kumārasaṃbhavam.

A set of four beautiful stamps were issued by India Post on Himalayan Peaks on 19.05.1988.

The First Day Cover depicts the introductory Sanskrit verse taken from Kālidāsa describing the Himalayas.

In the North is situated in its divinity, the king of mountains named Himalayas, which, by entering into the waters into the East as well as the West, stands like the pivot of the earth.
