Nehru wrote in his Discovery of India (2004, p. 304) about Ahilyabai Holkar, thus -- "The reign of Ahilyabai, of Indore in central India,
lasted for thirty years. This has become almost legendary as a period during
which perfect order and good Government prevailed and the people prospered. She
was a very able ruler and organizer, highly respected during her lifetime, and
considered as a saint by a grateful people after her death."

Post issued a commemorative postage stamp on Ahilyabai Holkar on
25.08.1996. The First Day Cover carried a cachet of the State Emblem of
Holkar dynasty. The inscription beneath the emblem reads --
प्राहोमेशो लभ्या श्रीकर्तृ: प्रारब्धात्
Umeśa (Śiva) has said, success attends him who strives.

"prahomeśo labhyā śrī kartṝḥ prārabdhāt"
